Personal Training

What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is exercising with the assistance and supervision of a trained professional who has earned a certification or degree. They also should demonstrate that they are competent and able to create and deliver safe and effective exercise programs for healthy individuals or those with medical clearance to exercise.

How is it different from Physical Therapy?

Personal training is different from physical therapy in that the type of exercises and level of care are different. Physical therapy is about getting you back to a prior level of function. Personal training is often about keeping yourself functioning well and often about pushing yourself to a specific goal. Personal training is great option for people after they have completed physical therapy but are nervous or hesitant to be on their own when exercising and building a habit to move.

Why would I use a Physical Therapist to do personal training?

The term personal trainer is a term that is thrown around by a lot of individuals. Some of these individuals are very qualified and have done extensive training and coursework. Some have taken a weekend course and know some basic exercises. The point is you as an individual want to make sure you are in good hands. When working out or training with a PT you know you are working with an individual that has expertise in movement analysis , anatomy, exercise progression, and compensation/ substitution patterns. This knowledge base will help you in your journey toward your goals and will set you up to minimize the potential risk of injury.
